Class of 2024 Updates
First Saddles. No Drama, Just Calm Progress
Lord Paycasso and Caesar reached another key training milestone as both colts wore saddles for the first time, handling the introduction calmly and without stress as part of their foundational racehorse education.
Paycasso and Caesar’s First Week in Racehorse Training: Foundation Before Speed
Paycasso and Caesar have completed their first week at the training barn. From bit introduction and light pressure response to standing tied and hot walker work, this early stage of racehorse training may look quiet — but it’s where confidence, safety, and lifelong foundations are built.
Training Begins: Paycasso and Caesar Reach a Major Milestone After a Start in the Hospital
Paycasso and Caesar have officially arrived at their training barn after early hospital stays at Hagyard. This first 60-day training phase focuses on foundational education, structured development, and long-term soundness as part of the Foal to Forever program.
The Last Turnout Together: Growth, Testosterone, and What Comes Next
As Paycasso and Caesar head to training, their playful colt turnout is coming to an end. Here’s why two intact colts can’t safely live together long term, how testosterone impacts growth and gelding decisions, and what this next developmental phase means for their future.
Back on Track: Paycasso & Caesar Headed to Training After a Weather Delay
After an unexpected winter weather delay, Paycasso and Caesar are officially back on the schedule to head to training.
A severe ice storm forced an unplanned pause, but both colts have handled stall rest, daily hand-walking, and limited turnout with maturity and calm. With a thaw underway, they’re expected to enjoy a few days back outside before starting the next chapter of their development.
Farrier Day: One Last Trim Before Training
Today’s farrier day marked one last quiet milestone before training begins. Paycasso and Caesar received their final trims at the farm before leaving next week to start school. Both have been on a consistent trimming schedule since just two weeks old, making farrier care a routine part of life rather than a new experience. Sending them off freshly trimmed and balanced helps set them up for a smooth transition as they head into training and continue their hoof care with the farrier at their new barn.
Paycasso and Caesar Headed to Their First Training Barn
A big milestone is coming for the Class of 2024. On Monday, January 26, Paycasso and Caesar will be leaving the farm to begin their very first training experience just outside Louisville.
This initial phase is intentionally slow and thoughtful, focused on learning the basics rather than hard work, with plans for them to return home for turnout before moving into more serious race preparation. It’s a major step in their Foal to Forever journey and one that comes with both excitement and very real costs, including a minimum of $5,400 per month while they are in training, before additional expenses like farrier, veterinary care, and transport.
