From No Bid to Official Jockey Club Name

Preview

Country Karma (the smaller colt) on his first day turned out with A Dozen and Won (Thirteen). They became fast friends.

While Thirteen may have been the first colt to join the Foal to Forever Class of 2025 when he was born March 13, 2025, our new colt’s path to the farm followed a very different—and very specific—story.

He went through the Keeneland sale ring on January 13, 2026 without receiving a single bid. Instead of moving on quietly, he became part of the Foal to Forever program, giving us the opportunity to watch his story unfold deliberately, patiently, and with the long view in mind.

If you’re just catching up on how he arrived here, you can read his full introduction below:

Thank You for Naming Him

When we opened the naming contest, the response exceeded anything we anticipated.

More than 300 name ideas were submitted, representing a wide range of creativity, meaning, and thoughtfulness. From there, Foal to Forever members participated in ranked-choice voting, carefully selecting and prioritizing their top choices.

That voting resulted in one name receiving the highest overall point total across all ballots. The winning name was submitted to The Jockey Club and has now been officially approved.

Say hello to Country Karma!

How Country Karma Fits His Story

After member voting concluded, Country Karma emerged as the name that received the highest overall point total and was subsequently submitted to The Jockey Club for approval.

From our perspective, what makes this name resonate so strongly with this colt is how closely it mirrors the path that brought him here.

In country life—and in horse racing—returns are rarely immediate. Progress is built quietly through patience, consistency, and care. Country Karma reflects the idea that what’s invested today comes back over time, not all at once.

This colt’s journey isn’t defined by a single moment in the sales ring or a quick result. It’s about watching potential unfold gradually—over the next year, and across his lifetime—exactly the kind of long view this community values.

What Should His Barn Name Be?

Now that his registered name is official, we’re turning to something a little more informal.

We’ve been calling him CK around the barn—an obvious nod to Country Karma, but also a name that makes us think of Clark Kent and Superman… or maybe just Karma.

We’d love to hear what you think.

Part of a Bigger Story

Country Karma joins a growing group of horses followed through the Foal to Forever program, spanning multiple classes and stages of life—from foals and yearlings to horses further along in their journeys.

We’re excited to continue sharing his story—and grateful to have a community that values patience, perspective, and the long view.

Naming Contest Winners

Because Country Karma was independently submitted by two individuals, and a nearly identical variation (Country Kharma) was also submitted, we’re pleased to recognize three primary naming contest winners:

  • Desiree Vurpillatte

  • Kathy Owen

  • Kat Stelter

Additionally, because the final voting was exceptionally close, we’ve also decided to award naming contest prizes to the individuals who submitted the second- and third-place names based on total points:

  • Amanda BairdNo Bid Deal (2nd place)

  • Amy KALittleBitCountry (3rd place)

Thank you to everyone who submitted names and to all members who participated in voting. With more than 300 name submissions and a tightly contested final ranking, this was a thoughtful, community-driven decision from start to finish. Naming a Thoroughbred is a permanent decision, and this community approached it with care and intention.

What the Name Winner Receives

Each naming contest winner will receive one of the following, depending on their current Foal to Forever status:

  • If the individual who submitted a winning name is not currently a Class of 2025 Foal to Forever member, they will receive a complimentary lifetime membership for the Class of 2025.

  • If the individual is already an active Class of 2025 member, they may choose one of the following options:

    • A gift membership for the Class of 2025 to give to someone of their choice

    • An exclusive Foal to Forever prize package, including a one-night stay at Horse Husband Stables in Nicholasville, Kentucky, hosted by Sean and Kyle

All winners will be contacted directly with prize details and next steps.
